New season... My targets

So, here we go again. Not that I have ever started a season so optimistically. Or even really started a season. Usually I did my years as calendar years. Free Spirits has changed all that.

I suppose I need to have some targets. I have not thought much about that so far and only have these so far:
  1. To go under 6:30 at BIRC. This is over 13 seconds inside my current PB and I am not sure it if it possible for a lard bucket like me but I will give it a go. If I can be the top 35-39 year old at BIRC so much the better! Look out MaxDev!
  2. To avoid the "post BIRC blues". I was lost after BIRC and it took a while to get my head back together and want to row again.
  3. To row a half marathon under 2:00 split - this is totally in my range but I appear to have a mental block about it. I can do 15,000+ for 1 hour - why can't I go the extra 20 minutes?
  4. To "get" Mike Channin's 2,000m PB and (don't know how) any other of his PBs.

Today I carried on tuning and preparing for a sub 7 minute 2,000m attempt. I am still out of condition but I think that it is possible before my self imposed deadline of May 20th. The session was 8 x 45 seconds flat out. I did a long warm up with some high intensity bursts. I then realised I was a bit tight in the chest and popped indoors for my inhaler. After that I was conservative and aimed to do a pyramid, with all pieces under 1:35 split. I managed it pretty easily with the middle two being a 1:32 split.

My lungs were fine. I am getting stronger, and that feels good.

Metres today: 6,950

Well, you're not competing with me in the 35-39 category. I'm a mere stripling at 31... but I plan to go sub 6:25 at least!
