1,750,000m - an "impossible" distance.

So I did the 3 x 15' UT1 demanded of my programme today. It was fine and I covered similar ground (10m fewer) in the first one to my first one on Friday which meant that my lungs had recovered from a weekend away with friends who have a cat. When I finished I knew I was close to 1.75 million metres for the year so I checked up and plugged in the last few metres.

2,436m was all it needed to complete the distance. When I started the season (in late May!) I thought that 1 million metres in one season was impossible for someone working full time. The thought that anyone could row 10 million+ (Mr Barrick!) never entered my mind. Gregor's email set me on my way and at the end of the season here I am. I have pondered what we have achieved on the forum so won't get in to that here. I just think that Free Spirits has changed my life in many ways, and I think that setting up and maintaining the web site - albeit one piece in a large and glorious machine - has been one of the better things I have done.

Too many people to thank really, but Gregor and Mike Channin played a huge part in my rowing improvements this year. Next season if things go well I hope to surpass Mike's PBs and start trying to catch up with Max.

And finally (and once more) my wonderful wife has been soooo patient with me she deserves a medal. Love you so much.
