Grass is amazing!

There, that title should get the cannabis brigade viewing the blog. The stats should go through the roof. Maybe in to double figures!!

I did not row today (my usual day off). Decided to do more digging in the garden and laying more grass. The stones are astounding and I am stunned that any grass grows at all. I do now understand why my lawn is like concrete with grass on top though. Because it pretty much IS grass with concrete on top.

Here is a photo of one of the holes I dug in the garden. This is NOT a faked up picture. This is genuinely what the hole looked like after I had shovelled out the first couple of spade-fulls for sieving. I have now, in seven holes of this size, filled two and a half bags with stones to the level where I can barely lift them.

I had the bright idea of mixing in organic matter from the compost heap with the dug out material. This made a huge difference to the soil I was putting back in the holes and I hope that the two I did tonight will produce lots of healthy growth. They'd better!

I did some in my head calculations today and worked out that it would cost in the region of £6,000 to remove all the grass in my (bottom) lawn, lay 10cm of rich top soil and turf it over. MBH was unconvinced that this was a wise investment. Can't think why.

Metres today: 0 (what a relief)
