I was cross and very pumped up and set off hard but it felt soft. I hit race pace after about 10 strokes with the average split on about 1:36. I then held 1:41 until the split reached my PB (1:40.9) which was, amzingly, at about 1200 in. I then edged the split down and got home 1 second under BIRC 2006 with 6:42.5 @ 1:40.6.The splits went like this which ties in with my experience of the race. I was pleased with my heart rate since it appeared not to dip at the end!
| split | time | HR |
| 1 | 1:39.9 | 178 |
| 2 | 1:41.3 | 184 |
| 3 | 1:41.4 | 187 |
| 4 | 1:39.9 | 187 |
| Totals | 6:42.5 |
Can I knock 2.6 seconds off the middle 1000m? I don't know but I think I will be giving it a go at BIRC, maybe aiming for 800 @ 1:41, 600 @ 1:40, 400 @ 1:39 and 200 @ 1:38 for a 6:39.9?
Looks plausible on the page...
