BIRC

Great to meet many people again. My own row somewhat forgettable.

I am still unable to talk properly. I had a bad start (no nerves at all, I suspect that the metal battle was lost before the race began) but eased in to 1:41 splits. At 800m my race plan demanded a increase in split of 0:01 seconds/500m but it was just not there - I couldn't physically get the split to 1:40 without massive effort. It slowly dawned on me that my lungs were suffering and I just could not get the oxygen in fast enough. I stopped trying to row fast and paddled at the limit of comfort, saving myself for a sprint when I knew it would be anaerobic at the end.

My final time was 6:49.2, 9.3 seconds slower than I was hoping for! I ended with a very tight and constricted chest - I am guessing it was an asthma attack. My lungs were clearly not up to the effort, just like my voice at the moment.

It was, however, FANTASTIC to see my team mates and a great and wonderful surprise to see Mike and Tanya.

Metres today: 5,258
