Coming back.

Thursday and Friday were complete wash out. I was not myself at all. Wheezy and lacklustre. We went to London anyway in the hope that the amoxycillin we were both on would speed our recovery from the virus the whole family is suffering from. Friday night was a wash out - exhausted and couldn't finish my dinner (I had not had an appetite all week but this is still a bit of a shock!). In bed, asleep, by 10pm. I was glad that we cancelled the Tamarind for dinner. I wouldn't have enjoyed it.

Saturday was now the big celebrate your 9th anniversary event. After cancelling the Tamarind we managed to get in to the Savoy Grill for lunch. We shut our eyes to the bill (it had been a bad week) and had a fantastic and leisurely meal. We pottered home via Peter Jones and then went out in the evening to Mary Poppins, followed by a romantic return to Wagamama (where we did most of our courting). Bled cash like water but it is our first blow out like that for a long long time.

So, I got back on the rower tonight. My lungs are still a bit wheezy but I wanted to try out the new dehumidifier I bought to combat the mega damp in the room after all my sweat (this caused a large sheet of paint to come off the wall). the dehumidifier definitely works, since the floor was still dry at the end of my (relatively short) session. Normally there is a thin sheen of water.

I did a long warm up then a 15' UT1 to see what state I was in. The UT1 was good. My heart rate was a tiny but high but otherwise it was par with recent rows.

I then got ambitious and thought I would do a 5 minute TR piece (182 heart rate), aiming for a 1:40 split. After 2 minutes I was up with the pace boat and not in pain, but I simply stopped. I think that I was just not ready. Felt a bit weak. It will get better. It had better with BIRC around the corner.

My fragmented season can be summed up with this fact. At BIRC last year I completed my 1 million metres for the season, despite starting it 1 month late. This year, I will be about 200,000m short by the time I get to the race. I suspect if I had rowed every session I should have I would have the 1 million by now and would be going in to BIRC with confidence and a sub 6:40 time under my belt. At the moment I have absolutely no idea what I will row there.

Metres today: 7,557
