I thought that I might be ready for a sub-7 tonight and set off at 1:46, stepping down to 1:45 after 800m. The plan was to go to 1:44 with 600m to go but when I got there I slowed to snail pace. My heart rate was182 when I slowed. I finished just under 8 minutes. Particularly glum because in the warm down I had tenderness in the area I thought had healed.
This is a lot because of mental toughness but I am still very demoralised. I thought that I had it in me. My mind was whirling because I set up my pace boat wrong (for 1:59.9 pace NOT 1:44.9!) and ended up annihilating that whilst watching my PB sail away in to the distance. This was a distraction but I find that anything mentally askew affects my performance.
I trained for the Surrey IRC on 13th January expecting to row a 1:44.x split in that race. I was ill on the day and it has been downhill from there. The climb back is going to be long and hard. I realise this now I think. My new target is to be sub 7:00 by May 20th - the start of the 26 week run in to BIRC. I will work out a 4 week programme and take it from there.
Metres today: 4,371

Thomas, get back on that horse and ride it again! Just show it who IS boss - you. You know you have it in you and, yes it is tough, but just reading your blog and forum posts we all know sub 7 is just itching to get out and shout to the world. Then comes the real test - sub 6.45??????
Good luck and pull away.
