Second in my marathon work outs today. Target was 3,000m at "full marathon" pace (2:03), then 3,000m at 10,000m pace (1:51) and 3,000m at "half marathon" pace. Concept label this as a LT or Lactate Threshold piece. My heart rate band calculator calculates my threshold at 182 beats per minute with my newly observed minimum heart rate (54) and maximum from the 1 hour PB of 196.
Now, my HM pace for this work out is 6 seconds faster than my true HM PB pace and the 10km pace is conjecture on my part since my true PG is 1:51.9 but was set two months ago. So I was interested to see how today's row went. I was expecting the first 3,000m to be a warm up, the second 3,000m to get me up to close to threshold and the last 3,000m to keep me there. This was exactly what happened so I was quite impressed. Since I am relatively new to organised training plans I have not done this sort of long interval pieces before. I found it quite fun. I had managed to set up a pace boat in Row Pro for the correct splits and kept half a length up all the way.
I watch the arrival and departure of rowers at the moment with some sadness and some interest. Anyone leaving is sad, but one has to be realistic and understand that with well over 200 members we are not going to be everyone's cup of tea. I would like to know why people go (and why they come) though. I look forward to hearing what webberg can find out.
Metres today: 12,147
