Crappy PB attempt. All over the place.

First, my post on the "Failed Workout" thread:

Bum. Sitting here steaming gently after a total cock up of a row. My marathon plan asks for a HM pace of 1:55. I felt that I had better see if I could do that. I had it in my head that my split for 1 hour is 1:53 so felt that 1:55 was possible.

Anyway, I am toddling along with 12,000m to go with the pace boat at 1:55 when the DVD envelope from www.lovefilm.com gets whipped off the shelf and sucked up against the C2 fan casing. My drag immediately drops off enormously. I had to stop and the pace boat took 15 seconds out of me. More importantly I completely lost the plot and my race head fell off. I gave up once there was 10km to go.

I now look at my log book and see that my PB for 1 hour has a split of 1:55.1!! So I was staring failure in the face from the first stroke.

I should have stuck with the planned 20km at 2:03.
Not very happy about that really. Stupid not to check carefully the splits, though the flying envelope is a freak event that I have never seen before. I can't help wondering what would have happened if that had not happened! I was tired, but functional and hit half way thinking that getting to the end would be tough but not impossible. My heart rate was 180 which is my anaerobic threshold so I suspect I would not have made it. Certainly the 2k after the envelope incident were OK, but then I suddenly felt weak. But my mind was all over the place by then. It just shows how important it is to have mind and body on the job when attempting a PB. I suspect I was not fully on my best form anyway since I felt a bit bloated as I started to row, and had a stich for a couple of minutes about 15 minutes in.

So, NOT 20,000m @ 2:03 as per my plan, and NOT much use in the September challenge. I am guessing unless we have some aces up our sleeves Team Canada are going to stroll home and well done to them.

Metres today: 15,257.
