Finally I row and it wasn't too bad.

I finally managed to get on to the ergo this evening after three days of illness. My heart rate had not been affected throughout and I felt pretty well by the time I got home from work so I was optimistic.

I started with a no warm up, 22 rate, damper 5, 130 heart rate 10,000m test. I do these from a time to time since this is what I was doing when I was a tub of lard (not much change there then!) and it is nice to compare like for like. Well, I was 4 seconds off my fastest ever one of these - and I had to stop at 4km in because my seat pad was wonky and my back was hurting. Without that I would have probably had a new PB. I again managed 5 full strokes with both heart rate on 130 and rowing rate on 22. I have never, ever beaten that!

That went so well (I had felt it was bad during because I was building up a sweat!) that I tried a race pace 805m in preparation for Saturday. That went OK with a split of 1:35.0 dead. I'll hope for better on Saturday - if only to beat Petr Oliva's time! I think with a better start I could have been a lot faster. It took ages to get the split down towards 1:35. I should be able to get there within 10 strokes comfortably. My only slight concern is that my lungs felt a little odd afterwards.

Then a gentle 2,500m warm down.

Metres rowed: 13,316m
