CTC effort

After being on my knees, very tired yesterday and electing not to row following a parents' evening I went back to the ergo this evening. The science museum trip was a success (we only lost two girls) and the meeting I got dobbed was over before we got back.

So after reading Harry Potter to E. I trudged out to the garage pondering another bash at the horrible 1,000m @ 24 CTC challenge. I was supposed to be doing a tough 3 × 4,000m at 2:03/1:51/1:55 but I wimped out and went for the 1,000m effort!

Since recovering from my virus I have found that it is relatively hard work getting my heart rate up to 120bpm for warm up. I realise now that this is because 2 × resting HR is no longer 120bpm! So my new warm up heart rate is 108bpm and that felt right.

It was nobblin in the gymoffice so I rowed for 3,000m odd as the warm up, waiting for the room to warm up. I was experimenting with the damper for my 1,000m effort and decided that damper 9 was the way to go. I was pulling 1:38 initially but slowly slid downwards. At half way I was at about 1:39 and I tried desperately to get the split under 1:40 for the last 250m but it was beyond me. Still, within a second of Nick Shuker is nice!

I then tried to get on the internet 10km that "big g" told me about. All was going swimmingly until the race started. I was left on the blocks! I have since upgraded to version 2.006 of RowPro. Hope that helps next time.

Finally I did "half" of my 12,000m piece but at the same splits and a warm down. I was right, it would have been hard, but I think that I could have done it. I am feeling strong on an ergo again for the first time since early January. Thank goodness.

Metres today: 11,234.
