Funnily enough the last time I did this row was after a lay-off. Admittedly that was illness followed by Christmas and this was a week of skiing, but it did mean that I have no clue about pacing.
So, given that I feel I am edging close to a sub 1:45 for 4 x 2,000m with 5 minutes rest, a 4 x 1,000m with 5' rest should be well under 1:45!
My target was to do the first at 1:45 and see how that felt. The nominal target from after Christmas was 1:46.2 - which was silly.
I felt strong and cruised home easily at a split of 1:44. I still felt I didn't want to get bitten so did the second 1k at the same pace. I still felt good so aimed to do the third at 1:43 and the last at 1:40. I managed this pretty well. I still felt good going in the last row and thought I would really go for it with the first half at 1:38 then "hang on". The "hanging on" was messy and at around 1:45. I only dug out a sub 1:40 with a good last 150m.
The overall average split was 1:42.7, and this it the target for next time. Looking at the ELM league, I can see that this is closer to where I should be. Next time I should push this lower, and ultimately I guess the aim is for sub 1:40s all the way.
Rowing still feels odd but I am getting back in to it. The "why" gene kicked in at about 400m in on the last row but I partially dismissed it by slowly backing off to 1:45s and gutting out the last sprint. Pretty happy with my rowing today.
Meters today: 7,014
