We had a fun time on holidays. 6 days in the Shropshire-Welsh borders (slightly blighted by me straining a muscle in my neck when playing with the kids on a playground!). Then 5 days in the Lake District. My friends there had a Concept 2 model D, but I didn't have the oomph to assemble it and find a bit of flat ground (the latter would have been a problem!). We started the kids off on some walking and (relief) they loved it. The photo shows us walking in the foothills of Old Man Coniston in the company of my extremely large gut flobbing over my Harriet-belt. Hmmm. I have come home at least 2kg heavier than when I left. With 8 days lounging around Italy to come I may be in trouble.
I rowed today. A 5km at 130 heart rate and then a bash at the August CTC (2,000m/2' rest/1,000m/2' rest/2,000m). I knew it would be slow and it was! 18:26.0 at a split of 1:50.6. I should be capable of 1:48 at the very least but 12 days of relaxation and wine put paid to that! I did the first at 1:48.0 in an optimistic frame of mind but fell back. The second went over at 1:50.7 since I knew that the last 2,000m was coming. I did not want to kill myself tonight so did the last at anaerobic threshold until the last 500m ending with a 1:53.2. I will try again on Wednesday before I go away again and aim for a 1:50 split over all.
Metres today: 11,029
