I'm back...

Finally getting myself sorted in NZ and started off earlier in the week with a couple of CTC 400m pieces. I had a brain aberration when setting up the erg and put the date a few days early which has confused my logbook, but otherwise it was not too bad.

As I posted on Free Spirits...

My warm up was about 2k, but it is gloriously sunny here so was pretty warm ;)

Well, what an interesting row that was. The first I thought I would go hard for 10 strokes and then try to hold it. I ended up at 1:36 odd. Not so bad, but the wheel felt very heavy on this rented model D so I thought "Ah ha! I'll lower the drag to 130". Hmmm, it was at 115 and I had to increase it. I then couldn't resist looking at what you got Wolfie and whimpered a little when I saw a 1:26 average. Would I see a single stroke that high I thought if I tried again. So I tried again aiming to go off really hard straight up and then try to hold it. For a glorious 220m I could see a sub 1:30 but then one of my daughters must have poured treacle in to the machine and it was not so good, well, actually, excruciating for the last 150m. I ended up pulling at 1:38 with a 1:33.4 average. Well, it is something to work at, but I managed to get in to a boat!

Good to be back. I think

Tonight I wanted to see how close I could get to Wolfie's time. I did a 2,500 warm up with some bursts but I stupidly didn't check Wolfie's time before I raced. I had in my mind his average was 1:26.x and aimed to keep that in my sights. I had a great start but again my power fell dramatically towards the end. I held as fast as I could but felt sad as my split crept then slipped below 1:27. My time, 1:09.9 on the PM4 and 1:10 on RowPro seemed OK, it was the split that mattered and that was not low enough.

Then I checked Wolfie's time. 1:09.9. Aaargh. I could have had him. And I will later in the month. (Fighting talk).

I tried to warm down for 5,000m (25mins) but my seat was uncomfortable. The sooner that sorts itself out again the better. I have lost my "seat"!

Metres today: 5,967m
