So, I have gone public with the plan of 40 x 1,000m in 40 days, ending the day before my 40th birthday. I think this challenge would not be too daunting were I in condition, but I appear to have prepared by:
1) Doing almost no rowing in the Easter holidays;
2) Giving blood;
3) Spending a week eating heroicly embarrassing amounts and not rowing whilst MBH was away; and
4) Hurting my knee in a mystery "bending down for pen" incident.
That, and the run in to my 40th birthday covering the hardest weeks of the term at school for marking and pressure is going to make for some interesting times.
I proved how out of condition I am today. I was doing a recovery row of 10k. Now, a month ago that meant rowing a sub-39 minute 10k and getting off feeling strong. Today I rowed a 41 minute 10k and it hurt. At 7.5k I was struggling and at 9k I was wobbly and I paddled home. At least I got there in the end but that is all it was. How quickly condition goes, but I suppose on count back I have hardly rowed for a month.
Metres today: 10,120
