The return from NZ has led to my recovering my long abandoned bike from the garage. I have not been rowing much since my perianal haemotoma (ouch), mostly due to loss of confidence in my body. Instead I have taken to the highways and byways of East Anglia. I am greatly enjoying this (including the fall through a deep muddy puddle in to a bramble/nettle bed that made me feel like a real cyclist!).
But, I will need to return to rowing when the weather turns, so I am going to have to get started somehow. Each week I go to the gym and on Monday I did a 1k to see how things were holding up. I was surprised how easy a 3:26 1k was. this suggests that when I take rowing seriously I will be under 7 minutes relatively quickly. To explore this possibility I did a 15' UT1 today to compare with the ones I was doing two years ago. I turned up a 1:59 as opposed to 1:55. Not so bad.
